It takes an unbearably long time to travel even relatively modest distances due to the traffic in Bengaluru, which is notorious throughout the city. On the other hand, the story of a doctor who made an unconventional choice in order to save the life of his patient is proving to be a motivational and inspiring narrative.
Bengaluru (also called Bangalore) is the capital of India’s southern Karnataka state. The center of India’s high-tech industry, the city is also known for its parks and nightlife
Dr. Govind Nandakumar, a gastroenterology surgeon at Manipal Hospitals, was on his way to perform an emergency laparoscopic gallbladder surgery on August 30 when he got caught in the traffic jam on the Sarjapur-Marathalli stretch of road. His patient was in critical condition and he needed to operate as soon as possible.
Dr. Nandakumar got out of his car and ran for 3 kilometers in order to do the critical operation in time, as he was aware that any more delay could put his female patient in danger. He even shared a brief video footage of his run on his Instagram account, which is as follows:

“I commute every day from central Bangalore to Manipal Hospitals, Sarjapur, which is in the Southeast of Bangalore. I left home well in time for the surgery. My team was all set and prepared to perform the surgery as soon as I would reach the hospital. Looking at the huge traffic, I decided to leave the car with the driver and ran towards the hospital without thinking twice,” he said.
As soon as Dr. Nandakumar entered the operating room, his staff immediately began the process of administering anesthetic to the patient, as they had been preparing for this moment. The doctor quickly changed into the appropriate surgical attire in order to carry out the treatment without any delay.
The procedure was a success, and the patient was discharged from the hospital at the scheduled time.
Dr. Nandkumar is currently employed with Manipal Hospitals in the capacity of Consultant – Gastroenterology. Because the patient had been experiencing symptoms of gallbladder disease for a prolonged period of time, the doctor recommended that she undergo surgery.
